Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. 1996, she became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In the following two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. 1981 was the year she began reporting on for the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional Correspondent. Mitchell was named the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of a panel discussion at the 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for her journalism achievements, such as her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell initially covered in the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. The reporting she did included plenty of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra affair, the tax and budget reforms and also the issue of arms control. She traveled widely with the president Reagan to meet together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
